One of the first things I did after we moved here was to find a Colorado Springs library near our home so my young children could check out tons of books. We all loved to read and it is important to nurture that love of reading by allowing children to pick out books and to go often.
Fortunately, there was a good-sized library close to where we lived. We went every one to two weeks. I read stories to my kids everyday and they loved it. This is good, educational, fun entertainment for children and the best part is that it is free.
Now, the libraries have DVDs that you can check out as well. So if Blockbuster or going to a theater is not in your budget, you can still pick up some good movies to watch that will please the kids. The library has a lot of older movies that you may not be able to find at Blockbuster as well.
In addition, you can check out CDs, tapes, and magazines. The library is a great place to go for a little while to give the kids a change of scenery. They can go and pick out some books and sit down at the kid's tables and read their books. Just stay close by to make sure they are safe. Remember that it is not the librarian's job to watch your kids! I cannot tell you how many times I have seen parents go off and leave their little ones unsupervised. That is so dangerous.
Each summer, the libraries have summer reading programs for the kids so that is additional entertainment.
There are movies, craft programs, and story times all throughout the year that are free, too.
Right now, there are 13 Colorado Springs library branches. We lived by the Sand Creek branch and it is still there, on South Academy Boulevard. Just about everything you need is on Academy Blvd., like stores, malls, Wal-Mart, discount stores...For information on where libraries are located, see this map.
