Black Forest Colorado

Black Forest Colorado is a small town just northeast of Colorado Springs where we used to go to church every Sunday for the last two years that we lived there.

In Colorado Springs, we lived right by the airport. It took us about 30 minutes to drive out to this little town each Sunday morning. The drive out is spectacular. The scenery all over the area is just gorgeous.

Black Forest Colorado got its name from the woods there. A man from Germany settled there and thought that the dark coloring of the Ponderosa pines in the area looked like the Black Forest in Germany so the name stuck.

The town is a small one with a little over 13,000 people. The homes typically have finished basements. The basements are nice and cool in the summer, but very cold in winter so expect the heating bill to be a little higher if you plan on moving to this quaint little town or even to Colorado Springs if you currently live somewhere without basements, like Texas. Several of our friends from church lived out there and they really enjoyed it.

Most residents actually work in Colorado Springs. There are a lot of horses kept on residents' property out there so if you want to find a place near civilization where you can have horses, this may be the answer for you.

The elevation of this town is between 6500 and 7800 feet. There are a lot of deer and other animals out there in the woods. It is a good place for privacy. Most homes are on about 5 acres so it is a nice, rural area.

As far as tourism goes, there is not much to see, other than the sheer beauty. There is a Community Center, a Volunteer Fire Station, a gas station and a country store. Last I heard there was also a Curves and a movie rental store. There are several churches.

We went to the Black Forest Church of the Nazarene at the time and enjoyed it very much. The pastor was a fellow student with my husband at Nazarene Bible College who graduated a few years earlier than him. He has since moved on.

On the rest of this page is information about various Colorado day trips for you to consider while you visit Colorado Springs.
