Barr Lake State Park

Barr Lake State Park is northeast of Denver, not far at all. There is a lot to do at this park such as camping, birding, biking, boating, hiking, fishing, cross-country skiing, ice fishing, showshoeing, hunting, horseback riding, and sailboarding.

Unfortunately, no swimming is allowed in this park.

Be prepared to meet wildlife. You can see bald eagles, mule deer, white-tailed deer, coyotes, foxes, cottontail rabbits, ground squirrels, white pelicans, great blue herons, cormorants, egrets, and hawks. So bring a camera and document your visit by taking a lot of photos for your scrapbook.

This park has some wildlife tours in a motorized passenger cart called the Eagle Express.

If you fish, you can meet and catch rainbow trout, walleye, wiper, tiger muskie, largemouth bass, yellow perch, crappie, bluegill and channel, blue and flathead catfish. Your kids will have a blast trying to catch them.

From the city of Denver, head northeast on I-76 and exit on Bromley Lane. Then go east to Picadilly Road and then south to the park entrance.
