Arapahoe National Recreation Area

Arapahoe National Recreation Area is close to where the Colorado River begins and also includes five lakes. It is in northern Colorado, near Rocky Mountain National Park, which is very close to Estes Park.

The five lakes are Monarch Lake, Shadow Mountain Lake, Lake Granby, Meadow Creek Lake, and Willow Creek Lake. They are known as the Great Lakes of Colorado. Fishing is allowed year-round with a Colorado fishing license. Ice fishing is popular during the winter months.

The Continental Divide passes through this national park. You can hike some of the trails on the Continental Divide or experience them while riding a horse.

Boating, fishing, swimming, camping, hiking, observing nature, and photographing everything are all activities your family will enjoy here.

Be prepared to see moose, elk, deer, coyotes, bobcats, bears, beavers, squirrels, red foxes, badgers, chipmunks, mountain lions, bighorn sheep, golden eagles, bald eagles, osprey, trout, and kokanee salmon.

The beauty here is incredible. Mountains, valleys, water, aspen trees, and many other kinds of trees make this park a true wilderness. You will experience gorgeous rock formations, deep canyons, rocky ridges, high alpine lakes, meadows, glaciers, and tundra, all in the same huge park.
